a letter to my body

For the last 20 months you have been nothing short of amazing. You grew a perfect little being inside me. You've nourished that little guy selflessly with your two breasts for the past eleven months. You've had your boobs hanging out more this past year than you've had your entire life. It doesn't matter to you, as long as you are taking care of another life you are happy. Although, I did wear a bra last Saturday that wasn't nursing accessible for the first time in almost a year—it was glorious to not have my nipples poking out during dinner.

All through the pregnancy I took extra good care of you. More for the baby than for you in all honesty. That care continued after the baby was born. At least for awhile.

Lately I've neglected you and I'm sorry for that. The sleep interrupted nights, the junk I'm putting in your mouth, the lack of water. You've been so good to me and this is how I repay you. I'm a shitty hostess.

I used to love exercising and we both benefitted from it. Not so much anymore. I realized last night that it has been almost two years since I've really worked out—besides walking with the family. Things are just so crazy around here and I've let my attention slip away from you. It's not right and I'm here to correct it.

When I look at you I don't want to lick the mirror but I certainly don't turn away in disgust. The way you bounced back after giving birth is a miracle. You have changed in so many ways but you will always be mine. Powerful. Soft. Curvy. Beautiful. Life-giving.

Thank you.

do they make band-aids for that part?

Yesterday, while nursing, G-man bit me. Hard. This is not the first time he has done it, but it was the first time he drew blood. Now I have a tiny scab on my nipple where his tooth pierced the skin. Damn those sharp little baby teeth.

tune in tokyo

A few weeks ago I stopped wearing nursing pads to work (or anywhere for that matter). I had grown weary of catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror and seeing two flat 4 inch discs floating just below the surface of my shirt. I figured since Gideon is eating less often and I'm not completely engorged every two hours I'd be safe. And I am. It's nice to not have to wear them everyday.

Now I have another problem. My nipples. I feel like they are poking out so far that you could hang your coat off of them. I wonder if my students notice?

defective typewriter

Reason number 8008 that breastfeeding is awesome:
I haven't had a period since June 2006.

TMI? Probably.
Do I care? Nope.

is this thing on?

Dear blog,
I know I've been neglecting you lately. And when I do visit? It's just for a quickie and never fulfilling anymore. It's not you it's me. I have a new life now and making time for more then a fleeting moment with you just isn't easy anymore.

I have so much to say but when I get a moment to write it all down...well, it's gone. Shall we take a look at what post gems you've been missing?

"Show us your boobs"—Half the content is no longer relevant and the rest just keeps growing.
Potty training book review—I really have to get this done.
Faux-cocktail book review—See above (These aren't sponsored posts. My only gain is a free book—and more work.)
Frank Caliendo live—He is a really little guy.
Blogger award from Shades—They like me. They really really like me.
Baby Genius—Are you kidding? Not one single comment? I thought Josh's commentary was great and I plan on making this & putting Gideon in it. Where is the love?

I'll be around soon. I promise. I've still got two weeks left before I have to be back to work.

Perhaps a picture will make up for it?

Love,
*pixie*

boob guy

Josh and I were having a discussion the other day and I'm curious as to what you all think about it. The question was raised about the proverbial "boob guy". You know the one. The guy that can't remember to look at the face of a busty broad when their chatting. The guy that loves to motorboat. The guy...well you get the point.

Anyway, the question was whether this guy's behavior is more likely to manifest if he was formula-fed or breastfed. Is the denial of the boob more likely to create a strong desire for it? Or is it the constant exposure and source of nourishment more likely?

What do you think?
