cold november rain

Today was a cold dreary day here in Northwest Ohio. The high wouldn't reach 40° and we saw the first snowflakes of the season fall early this morning. I love days like this when I don't have to work. Days like this usually mean JQ won't have to work either. Today that was exactly the case. A free day. A chance for us to spend all day together as a family.

This morning we went and did our civic duty—we voted. That fact alone should have tipped me off that the weather would be less than savory. It's always wet and cold on voting days. We took Gideon with us and he got his first look at the democratic process in action—a relatively empty church room with a handful of volunteers and a half dozen or so voting booths. We must have been 20 years younger than the next youngest person in the room. When we finished we got our "I voted" stickers and headed home for coffee and naptime (us & Gideon respectively).

JQ and I also cleaned out our master bedroom closet today. Something we haven't done since we moved into the house almost 2 years ago. We cleared up a bunch of floor space, rotated our summer/winter clothes, and even threw away an entire garbage bag of old clothes. It felt really good. Throwing clothes out is sometimes the hardest part for us—even when we know deep down we aren't going to wear them again. We were in one of those moods today and took advantage of it.

We spent the rest of the day playing together and enjoying the coziness of home. It was perfect. The three of us even managed to all eat dinner at the table together. I even in my pajamas already and it's just 7 p.m.

That sounds like a very nice day. Good for you guys!

(I didn't vote today b/c it was all school elections and I didn't know anything about the candidates or issues. It hasn't gotten a lot of press, even in the small local papers. Weird. Anyway, all day today I have been feeling kind of guilty.)

Yay for you voting!!

The weather tho, I can relate. Northcentral Ohio here... are you getting that gnarley lake effect? Hate. Lake. Effect.

How awesome! A simple, but perfect day.

I, too, did my civic duty and proudly wore my sticker.

My day had a bit of perfection. My 7 yo daughter wrote me a note:

"Dere Mom I am glad I hav you I rote this for you bekozse I love you veree moch!! Love - Aria!"

Complete with hearsts, butterflies, and grass.

Pixie - thanks for letting me post.

Sounds like a good day!

Believe it or not we actually did not have any elections today. How odd. But next year...man, watch out! I wish I could call in sick to work on that day.

cruel shoes—When you own a house and the levies affect your taxes, you vote. We would have voted regardless, but that is the old nail in the coffin so to speak.

rebecca—We are right near Lake Erie so we get it all. Love your avatar by the way!

ac(w)p—So sweet! Gotta love that Little Miss Aria.

fantastagirl—It didn't take us long either. I dig those electronic polling booths.

mel—Ditto on the cold weather—unless you have someone to snuggle with of course.

vp—What? Don't you like reporting the returns?

Since we are neighbors, I thought I would let you know I am sending over some more rain.
