Mad Ethel has been talking about her yard plans and I'm eager to get mine started as well. Since Northwest Ohio weather keeps us from planting anything really fabulous this early, I decided to take measures into my own hands. I started some seeds in peat pellets the last couple of weeks and to my great pleasure they've already begun sprouting. In the picture here on the right, you can see one of my mini-greenhouse setups sans lid. These are the seedlings that have really taken off and no longer need the lid. From left to right there are: Purple Prince Zinnias, Envy Zinnias, Heavenly Blue Morning Glories, and Mixed Colors Morning Glories. If you look closely you can see the overflow seedlings on the far right—which are Bells of Ireland—and the smaller greenhouse with the lid that contains some seeds that haven't sprouted yet (more Bells of Ireland and Captain of the Blues Sweet Peas). I know this may border on too colorful—but I wanted to provide distinct links to details/images of each of the flowers and decided to use colors that I felt represented each well. Plus, it's my blog so I'll do what I want!
This second image is a close-up of the larger tray to give you a better view of the leaf structures and the peat pellets. The pellets are super cool because they come as these quarter inch thick pellets that expand when you add water. This is the first year I've used them and will continue to use them in the future. We have a ton of plans for our yard which I will bore you with in increments rather than all at once.
Josh and I went to The Anderson's General Store today to get a sparkplug for our lawnmower that was given to us by some friends and there was a Garden Show going on. That essentially translates to a bunch of boxes placed around the gardening section of the store that you could put your name in to win fabulous prizes. You bet your ass that we each put our name in almost every one of the boxes. We tend to be disgustingly unlucky when it comes to winning anything, but I'm hoping for the best. Send me some good vibes.

Look at you - all professional nursery lady and stuff! That's a great idea. When you first described it to me I pictured a big box with poop colored mush and seedlings. This is much more organized and "clean" looking. I'll have to give it a try!
