Growing up—20 months

Dear Gideon,

At the end of November you turned 20 months old. Twenty months! Do you realize that means in just four short months I'll have a two year old on my hands? Holy crap! How is that even possible? Part of me is so sad that the days have flown by at a whirlwind pace with you, but every day is so wonderful that I wouldn't take back a single moment.

20 months—November 26, 2008

I think you feel that way too because you can't wait to start each day. You tend to wake up each morning between 6 and 7. You call out "Mommy" and "Daddy" to let us know you need us NOW. Neither one of us are what you would call thrilled at the interruption in sleep so after a quick diaper change we bring you back to bed with us.

That lasts about 20 minutes or so before you can't stand the thought of lying in bed anymore. You climb out from between us, slide off the bed and almost immediately head over to Daddy's side to get him up. You hand him his glasses off the nightstand, then you hand him his pants off the floor. If he isn't moving quick enough, you say "Get up" while trying to lift him out of bed. It's hilarious. And effective.

You are learning words like mad and you talk all the time. It's so cool to actually KNOW the words that are coming out of your mouth. Sometimes context is key, but regardless, your vocabulary and comprehension kick ass.

rockin' the vote

On November 4th you accompanied your Dad and I to the voting booths to participate in one of the most important presidential elections in history. That day our nation elected the first black president. It was a monumental moment for the United States and being a part of it was really something special. It made me really proud to be an American that day. Knowing we participated as a family made it even better.

when you get to be my age, don't jump as forcefullythe pile isn't that cushy

You got to jump in your first pile of Fall leaves a few weeks ago. As expected, you thought it was awesome. I tell people often that I'm so glad I had a boy. Of course, I would love you just the same if you were a girl, but I have so much fun doing the rough and tumble things with you. Rolling around in a pile of leaves, collecting rocks and other specimens on our walks, building forts, and playing with the knights and the ogre in your castle set—it just doesn't get any better than that.

we ALL love playing with the castle
Love,

Mommy

I was just thinking the other day that Gideon is going to be 2 years old very soon and I can't get over it, so I can't even imagine how you feel.

He is such a beautiful little boy that he always takes my breath away and you guys obviously enjoy him so much. Thanks for sharing your pictures and stories with us!

When I was looking at sizes for his little shirt I remember thinking "Oh my goodness he's going to be 2 soon! I can't believe how fast he is growing. And I love the morning wake up routine. So adorable!

Christina—With Chase just 6 months behind, you'll be here before you know it.

VP—He did it again this morning and I had to laugh. Especially since I was ready to get up and JQ was trying to sleep. He always goes to his Dad. LOVE IT!
