chicken of the shelf?

I love to cook. I don't think that's a secret around here. I like to keep a well stocked kitchen. Lots of spices. A pantry full of non-perishables. Produce. Dairy. The works. While we normally have a freezer full of meats, thawing and cooking said meat isn't always convenient. Or quick. Enter my new favorite pantry staple: canned chicken breast.

I can't say that it would be good right out of the can or on some bread for a sammy. I can say that is it awesome when you are combining it with other ingredients. Like a stir fry. Or a casserole. Or in some homemade chicken noodle soup I made this afternoon with things we had in the fridge and pantry. Mmmm...homemade soup in less than a half an hour.

Doesn't that look yummy?

However scary "canned chicken breast" sounds to me, that does look yummy!

It does look good. Can I have a bowl? :)

My mom's been using that alot.

I want your macaroni & cheese recipe. I guess you missed the post where I was "in search of" a replacement for my staple. I'm still experimenting, and the recipies are all good, just not quite the same...

I prefer the "canned" chicken breast that actually comes in a bag. It's pretty much the same thing. Makes a nice (and very very quick) chicken fried rice.

I don't eat any meat products from a can, but I would make that delish dish nonetheless. I wish I loved to cook. I do it because I have to. I never WANT to cook.

dutchy—That's why I had to talk about it. I does sound scary—but it's not!

chuck—Sorry. We ate it all.

shades—I do recall that now. Email me and I'll send you the recipe.

jq—Thanks!

fantastagirl—Seriously. Try it.

mel—Yum. Chicken salad.

tf—I'm not sure if they carry the bagged chicken at our grocers.

naynay—Not even tuna?

It's usually in the same aisle as the canned chicken, right next to it. They sell tuna in this format as well, although tuna in a bag or can just reminds me of cat food for people.

I don't eat tuna that much. I prefer the "cat food for people", as Jacob put it.

Okay now I am starving and salivating all over my computer keyboard.

I use that chicken to make Chicken pot pie, canned chicken, cream of chicken soup and mixed veggies, throw it in a pie crust, bake and serve.

That looks fabulous! I *heart* canned chicken breast. I ate it a lot while I was pregnant and needed fast protein but didn't want to eat too much tuna. Also, I love it with a little pasta and broccoli. Yum. Oh and your soup looks down right SCRUMPTIOUS! :-)

I use it in recipes that call for chicken breasts you have to dice, as well.

I don't eat a lot of chicken, but when we do, it usually is from the canned variety.
