oddball

When making a sandwich, toast, or anything that involves grabbing a slice of bread—I never take the slice that is right next to the heel. It has to be at least two in from the heel.

I have no idea why.

Is that weird? What about you? Anything odd you'd like to share with us?

I do that too! As if the 3rd piece in is more fresh than the 2nd.

I do that too!!

Also when I'm grocery shopping I never take the first product on the shelf. I take the ones that are a behind the first couple ... usually the third or fourth one in.

I can't imagine using the heel of the bread. And the second slice in has the rounded, crusty edges so that one cannot be used for symmetrical sandwiches, either. Therefore, the ONLY usable bread slices are #3 in, and on. Until you get to the other heel and slice-before-heel, of course.

If I am slicing a tomato and the seed area is extra green or gooey, I will throw away the seeds and only eat the "skin" of the tomato. It often looks like red pepper slices in my salad. But ah-ha, it's tomatoes!

I have a few:

I call the "heel" of bread the "butt." I always have. However, I'll eat the butt, and even the piece right next to it no problem.

However, every sandwich has to be sliced diagonally, or I won't eat it.

Mustard cannot touch cheese because they are typically both yellow. Bread, mustard, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc., mayo, bread. It has to go like that.

Oh, and like airam, I shop the back of the shelves, but just becuase I know that grocery stores "face" their products by putting the stuff that's going to expire soon in the front, so it gets bought. Fishing in the back can buy you a few extra days of freshness, especially with bread and milk.

I eat both ends of my hot dog first!

I eat bread slices in the order they're cut (one heel first, one last). But SG won't eat the heels until last, if at all.

How weird! I do the exact same thing. Usually the third piece back, unless I'll be toasting it then I don't worry too much about it.

DH refuses to eat the heel, and he calls it the "hump".
I usually have to patrol the entire loaf of bread for discarded "humps", feel sorry for them and eat them myself, or take great pains to shuffle the slices of bread around so that he is "hump"-free if I'm making the sandwich for him.

It will always be a heel to me, though.

Holy crap! My husband asked me why I did the same thing just a few nights ago. And only with store bought sandwich bread. When it's delicious homemade bread, there are fights for the heel.

Homemade bread - I'll eat the heel. Store bought bread - third slice in. I don't like the heel or second slice - it's dry. very very dry.

Eww. Jacob eats ass. I knew it all along...

I have to make haystacks (a.k.a. taco salad) a certain way or they're tainted. First chips then beans, cheese (so it melts on the hot beans), lettuce, tomato, sour cream, then salsa. Always salsa on top. I realize that it's a bunch of food piled together but I swear to baby Jesus that if it's not in this order it doesn't taste right.

Oh, and I also grab from the back at the grocery store. They didn't fool me! Mwuahahahahaha!

What Tim said. That's what I was going to say.

My neurosis: Making sure the fan is on really loud anytime I have to use the bathroom not in my own home; the pattern on the sheets has to face the same direction as the pattern on the bedspread and pillowcases, etc.; all the polly pocket shoes have to be separated from other polly pocket parerphernaila; after i brush my teeth i have to suck clean water out of the toothbrush three times before rinsing said brush.

All of our rugs have to be exactly straight. In our current apt. we have hardwood floor but in squares (parkay flooring I guess..) so every rug has to be straight or I don't feel ..well..straight. LOL I constantly go behind my husband or son fixing them to be perfect. LOL

OMG! I do that too! I need it to be away from the heel! How bizarre we both have heel fear.
