bumping the bumper

In a fit of paranoia I just removed the bumper pad from Gideon's crib. At 11:30 pm. While he is sleeping. After Googling "are bumper pads safe". Less than an hour after I found him on his stomach again right up against the edge of the pad.

This rolling over in bed trick has me totally freaked out.

My mom took the bumper out when Calem started rolling too. He bumped his head really hard once, but was ok after that.

Try not to stress out too much. Many babies survive sleeping in their crib. Wait until your boy uses his crib for a trampoline.

we took ours out but he keeps hanging his arms and legs out of the sides. unsure what to do now. the other three did not have a problem with it.

Hey - I took Aria's out - also due to paranoia. I found her as a NB, still in cradle, with face squished up against the side. She scooted herself up there!

Welcome to the wonderful world of parenting! Right now I'm dealing with not being able to let my child play outside without direct supervision due to all the freak kidnappers hiding in the bushes, just waiting for me to look away!

Just kidding...sort of...

He may bump his head, but as long as the bars of the crib are the correct distance apart (2 3/8 inches) - he will be fine, I don't believe that he can hit his head hard enough to cause injury.

I think it will be okay.

Boy do I remember those days. Listen to your heart. It's usually pretty smart about Mommy stuff. :)

oh gosh, I remember when my mom was like this with my younger siblings. And there's the whole do you put him on his side, on his back, or on his stomach while he's sleeping situation...so many things to be careful for!

The question should be is the floor safe. You'll find out when he does a triple back flip from the top rail.

The bumper pads in cribs are not allowed in Dutchyland. Not kidding you. Ten years ago it was decided, due to several suffocation accidents, they were no longer allowed.

Bumper pads are dangerous. I ended up taking my son's out of his crib after he started scooting at about 4 months. We used one of those breathable bumper pads after that stunt, which helped prevent him from sticking his legs & arms out of the side of the railing without the worry of suffocation.

Totally neurotic, and yet nothing wrong with that at all! ;) Better safe then sorry after all.

He's way too cute, by the way!

The crib that Kenslee sleeps in down the shore has really small bumpers. Her legs get caught between the rails in the middle of the night and she freaks out. She's also been sleeping on her stomach since she was about 4 weeks old. He'll be fine.
