sex, lies, and imminent death

Sex
From 10:30 Wednesday night to 5:30 Saturday evening I had five different people tell me I should have sex to help induce labor. Those people included:
  • My Mother—who apparently got the advice from people she works with
  • Another instructor at work—who offered to have support sex with his wife if I thought it would help
  • My OB-GYN—who didn't actually say we should have sex but told us it was still okay and might actually get things rolling
  • My sister-in-law—who says her ex SIL swears by the method
  • My brother-in-law's girlfriend's SIL—who we barely know—but claims that it's the only method of wive's tales that is actually true
Um...thanks for the advice?

Lies*
Saturday night Josh and I watched The Departed. We were talking with some friends about all the movies out right now that we'd like to see and mentioned The Departed. Our friends said they had bought it and not to go rent it we could just borrow it from them. One of them said it was the best movie he had seen in a long time and that they had already watched it like three times.
Seriously? My thoughts on it were...ehh. About an hour into it I looked over at Josh and said, "There is still an hour left in the movie." That's not good when you notice the time passing and you think it's going slowly. The movie wasn't awful, but the end was crap. So disappointing to me. I won't give any details to keep from spoiling it for those who haven't seen it, but is wasn't picture of the year in my book.

Imminent Death
Friday we watched Stranger Than Fiction. Now that was a good movie. Very entertaining. I wouldn't exactly call it a comedy, but there was a lot of humor in it. A different role for Will Ferrell but he pulled it off well. If I could only recommend one of the two it would be this one.

*I don't think my friend was lying—he liked the movie, that's his opinion. The "lies" comes from the movie itself, it's full of deception** and lies.

**However, I thought if I put "sex, deception, and imminent death" in my title the reference to would be even further stretched. Do any of you even get the reference?

That would freak me out... all those people minding your business where sex is concerned (even if they say it is "to help induce labor")

On the other hand... we've been saying the same thing on the "Pixies Sex Affairs Blogger Forum"

Well, as far as I'm concerned, any man who tells you that method works is in it for himself. But still, that's weird hearing it from your mother and her co workers. Ew.

I have heard walking helps too. But what do I know. I have never been in your situation.

Dutchy—Just who is running PSABF?

MadE—Actually, my Mom saying it didn't really bother me. It's not like she doesn't know how I got into my current condition.

Lynda—We've walked two days in a row and I've been trying to eat the spicy foods. I am so ready.

I felt the same way about The Departed. Ehh. I haven't seen Stranger than Fiction yet, but am looking forward to it. Maybe we will rent it tonight.

I have no recommendations on inducing labor.

Hey, I swore everyone... I mean... WE were sworn to secrecy on that particular information...

I just watched The Departed on Friday night. I liked it a lot. Tinabellina nad her husband were over Saturday and we were talking about it and we both had the same major complaint that I'm surprised you didn't mention. Damon's girlfriend finds out she's pregnant and can see that it's a boy on the first ultrasound. Such a bunch of crap. Take the Oscars away.

Cookie—From the reviews I read either you really liked it or you didn't. They were all over the place on imdb.com

Tim—Actually, as soon as that happened I was like umm, no way you wouldn't know that until about 20 weeks. Funny, all of us who have (or are having) babies picked up on something so trivial to the actual plot.

Hi i just started my first blog today and i was scrolling thru looking at other peoples and stopped by yours. Nice site (blog?) I wondered how you got the links imbeded into your text? I see you have links to The Departed and to Stranger Than Fiction included within your words. I want to do that too! And how do you stop the italics? I know what you start with but what do you stop with - not ... again obvioulsy. Cheers! BTW - I'm using a Mac OSX

Oh I just watched Stranger Than Fiction last night and absolutely loved it. It's one of my top 10 favorite movies right now. I just thought it was perfectly done, perfectly acted, amazing. I loved it.

I haven't watched The Departed yet, but Andrew loved it. Like Tim said, we talked about that ultrasound part on Saturday night and none of us could believe it got by the folks in editing. Has no one in Hollywood ever had a baby?

I think you've had an interesting past few days.

I tried the sex thing. It didn't work. But it was a lot of work for my husband because I was such a whale. Sorry for the visual, people. I also tried walking. Like miles! Didn't work. Forty eight hours of putting some sort of weird gel (it was probably just toothpaste) on my cervix to "soften it" didn't work. The petosin, after like six hours, worked.

I haven't seen either movie. I can't watch Scorsesi (sp?) movies. Too violent. I love Will Ferrel, though. I'll watch that one.

Now, the sex thing...and not that I should share this with everyone..LOL DID actually work for my husband and I with my first pregnancy. But, the contractions that came a day later did end on their own. That same day was the day I was induced..so they ended up having to use Pitocin anyways. Then today at my checkup my doctor tells me to try drinking 3 cups of "red rasberry leaf tea" from GNC. Supposedly this is supposed to speed things up!! Interesting....
As for the movies, yeah..i kept hearing how The Departed was wonderful, violent..but good. But I'm kinda of more excited to get my hands on "Borat". LMAO

I hated people telling me to try sex to induce labor. As if I was interested in that!!

Good luck!

Having sex during the ninth month sounds so scary. I can imagine it being uncomfortable! If you want, we can have sex for you. :)

I also want to see The Departed and Stranger Than Fiction. I love Will Farrell.

I would just like to point out that while I may be considered a co-worker, I did not offer to have support sex with my wife, we do not need a reason! It must have been B Howdy!
