What the hell is this? Can somebody please explain it to me? Anyone?

I went to the website Genpets.com. Very much a joke. They talk about how there's a freshness gauge on the pet to let you know if it's been on the store shelves for too long. Claims they are in a form of hibernation in the package.

Read:

The Genpet Fresh Strip™ - Our Commitment to Quality
No one likes a defective product and at Bio-Genica we understand this. Selling a live animal in packaging is no small undertaking so to help, we have included an easy to use "fresh gauge" in every single package. Four simple blue LED lights display the status of the Genpet™. The display will also display if the Genpet™ has been sitting on the store shelf too long, or if the package circuitry has malfunctioned in some way. Four blue lights mean that the pet is in pristine freshness, while one illuminated light means that while the Genpet™ is still healthy, it is approaching its expiration date.

Store operators can manually adjust the IV and temperature levels of the packages using the operator’s panel located on the right side of the store display. Units displaying one light can sometimes have their expiration extended, or even renewed, by simply tweaking their settings. For more information on this, look in the operator’s manual that you receive free with your Genpets display unit.

(Packages displaying one or less LED lights within two weeks* of shipment arrival can be returned for a full refund to our main warehouse).

eww.

I'm glad Jacob wrote all that because I couldn't be bothered reading the website... It's weird how having nothing to do makes me lazier

That's just weird...very very weird.

That is disturbing on so many levels. I'm not even sure what to say here. What's even worse is I read something about them biting, and they sell a tooth remover kit. Makes me shudder.

I certainly hope it's very much a joke. But if there is, there is nothing funny about it.

I think it's hilarious. I actually made up a similar fake ad in the past for my patented "kitten in a bottle" but it was not nearly this elaborate. Although it would seem prudent on their part (and in better taste) to clearly indicate somewhere on the page that it is just a joke. For anyone who can't figure that out on their own.

Oh, and here... to set your mind at ease.

Personally, I think it would be funnier if it were real.
