thermal bullshit

Anybody else put plastic up on their windows as a way to stave off the cold and keep the heat inside since you have crappy casement windows? Anyone think it's as big of a pain in the ass and as stress inducing (to the point of wanting to poke your eyes out) of a production as we do?

Just wondering.

I have crappy double hung windows in the bedrooms, the original 1962 models. The rest of the house has a mish mash of later model casement windows. I don't bother with the plastic. I hate putting up that shit. I also hate casement windows, especially after I cracked my head on one that is right above the outside water faucet. I damn near knocked myself out.

Just do what I do. Move down south :)

We tried using that stuff in Artsy Girls apartment. It fell down within 5 days. We are going to hang old comforters instead. It will be dark and it won't look pretty, but her apartment (all she can afford right now) is old and drafty and we have to do something.

I used to do this when I was younger - it was crap and took 4 of us to do it - I like Blogarita's idea of blankets. Who cares what it looks like - have you seen my electric and gas bills? And it's not even cold yet!

Well, I was going to this year, but it sounds like maybe it's crappy at best...? Should I even bother with it?

Nobody—I'm always afraid someone is going to seriously hurt themselves on one of those windows in the summer.

Mr. Fab—That's an unlikely option for us.

Blogarita—I prefer light and pretty, so it's plastic for us.

Fantastagirl—3 windows, 2 people, 1 hour. Not even close to done.

Blackbyrd—It does make a difference but it's a pain in the ass. Just be aware that you will bitch during the whole process.

I just recently bought a brand new townhome, and our windows are shit. The builder cut so many corners. We put up the plastic easily, and effectively. It hasn't fallen down, and really made it warmer, especially upstairs.

We have double paned windows. I am not even sure I know what a casement window is.
