I'm sorry for how I might smell if you happen to stand next to me in the next couple of days

Want to know how to expedite a project you've been putting off? Go down to the basement to switch over a load of laundry while your spouse is showering. When you get down there, notice WATER RUNNING DOWN THE WALL from the bathroom above. Freak out, run upstairs, get towels to wipe of mess and tell your spouse to hurry up and GET OUT OF THE SHOWER.

Tearing out the tile and drywall will commence within an hour of this discovery.

So, yeah, that busted, ancient soap holder built into the shower wall was apparently letting water in behind it. Which was disintegrating the drywall right below it. I think my no-holds-barred scrubbing of the wall with a homemade bleach paste the other day open up a hole in the wall. Which then ran down into the basement in buckets. Okay, not really, but when you see water running down the wall that should not be, any amount seems massive.

That was our evening yesterday. We now have lots of exposed wood in the shower area. And by lots I mean, out of the three walls that enclose the shower, we have three walls that are exposed down to the structure. Super fun. Remodeling the shower area has been on our to-do list for awhile. It just became a priority.

bummer. nothing expedites a project faster than its complete and utter breakdown. best wishes for a speedy & satisfying remodel!

All right, who was the wise guy that put tile over drywall?? Been there, done that. Fortunately it was parents house that had that problem, not my own, but it sucked all the same as it was the only bathroom in the house at the time.

Replace it with a fiberglass surround unless you happen to like scrubbing tile and grout.

lori—Thank you. It sucks that it's the only bathroom in the house. Plus, it's cold so I can't just leave the window open to air out that old musty smell that we were awarded when opening up the wall.

nobody—Probably the same wise guy that let paint splatter all over the hardwood floors before covering them with carpet.

Oh God, that sucks. I have no really great advice of anything..just to commiserate!

Oh man, paint on hardwood floors sucks! Some wise guy glued the carpet pads down to the hardwood floors in two of our rooms. Refinishing wood floors is a job I don't want to do ever again. Never never ever. I should post about it sometime. I documented the job quite well with pics.

Yikes, that is the bathroom disaster you were talking about on FB. Dang...... Sorry to hear that. :(

hilly—Sometimes that's all a person needs—somebody to sympathize. Thanks.

nobody—Our floor cleanup consisted of this old thing called elbow grease.

janine—Sorry to be living it.

We learned all about elbow grease on our floor project. And why it's called 'elbow grease'. After scraping all the glue and carpet pad off the floor by hand our elbows were mighty sore! Then my back hurt after renting the drum sander. That puppy's a killer.

Not the way I am sure you wanted to be forced into that project. Isn't it lovely owning your own home? We just discovered we may need to rip up ALL the plumbing in our house because the builders did a piss poor job. Fun times.
