My Grandma came over yesterday to visit G-tot and I—she brought with her a relic from my childhood. She has a small number of toys in her basement that have remained over the years as the waves of grandchildren ebbed and flowed. At least two of those remaining toys come directly from my childhood—a Cabbage Patch Kids Pony from the 80s and the item she brought over today.

That's a chalkboard in the center.
She didn't have any of the original characters that came with the set, but it doesn't matter. It's in really good condition and G-tot loves it. As soon as he saw it he was going, "Wow. Wow!" I cleaned it up and found a little bendable Elmo (also from Gam's—this time from the 2nd generation, 14 years later) and some other random figures to play with.

The set was most likely purchased around 1978 or 1979. I would have been a toddler at that point and safe from the potential choking hazard of the small figurines. I can still remember the Cookie Monster and Big Bird "Little People-esque" characters. I also remember the Oscar the Grouch figure was a trash can with a pop-up lid that revealed Oscar. I might have to dig around and see if I can find them anywhere. That would be awesome.
The Count's place?Any person that EVER enjoyed Sesame Street can appreciate the coolness that is this set. I'm so excited that I can share a direct link to my childhood with G-tot and relive a piece of that joy all over again. Do any of you remember this set? Or had one?

Oh, the memories!
Those like the best toys ever! I am thinking my mom probably still has some of them...
That is the cutest thing ever! My sister has my original Cookie Monster and Big Bird chairs that was part of a table set when I was a kid. It still holds our weight and they are fun to sit on. I love the thought that my stuff was passed down to Aidan.
YES!! I had this! I was very, very young, but I loved the front of it and have memories of making little figures (can't remember who they were now, but most likely Grover was in there, I loved Grover) walk up and down the street and talk. Man, this is amazing that you have this!! I totally think you need to track down the little figurines. If I happen across anything I will let you know post-haste.
Also-what was the name of those little Fisher Price people with the round heads and wooden peg bodies? I had tons of those, and I can't recall what (if anything) they were called.
I had that!! I'm pretty sure I got mine in 1977, when I was 4 years old. I played with it a lot, and I specifically remember the Oscar The Grouch trashcan! Oscar has always been my favorite, probably because I'm a bit of a grouch myself.
That is so cool she saved your old toys to pass on to your kids! My mom did the same with lots of our old toys, and it's so great to watch Kenslee's eyes light up when she plays with them. I know she gets the same enjoyment out of them as I did, and it doesn't matter that they aren't brand new. We have an old Sesame Street clubhouse thing, I'll have to take a pic to show you. And it has the little characters that go with it - surprisingly we never lost one.
I had it too! I remember playing with it at my grandparents' house. I loved my Sesame Street playset. It was my favorite toy ever and I hated to leave it at my grandparents house. Sadly I don't know where it went to. Probably sold in on of the many yard sales my mom had over the years. Oh G-tot will have hours of fun!

Have you checked the value of this thing in ebay? (for curiosity of course not to sell it..lol) it's worth alot!!!
I remember a few pieces of the furniture..like ernie and burt's beds where one of my siblings tore the foam off of them.
I used to love the chalkboard, too...but I remember chalk not settling well on it..like it was hard to use the chalk on it. lolWe must have gotten it in the late 70s and I played with it in the 80s. I love how you cleaned it up it looks fantastic!!
Next to the weebles haunted house, this is my favorite.
