Sundays

The bedroom smells like nutmeg and cinnamon. Despite temps in the 50s, it's nearly 70 degrees in here—and the furnace hasn't been on all day. It doesn't need to be, the oven has been running non-stop for the past couple of hours.

I love days like this. The crisp fall weather outside. Sweatshirts and slippers inside. And a big Sunday dinner. Tonight it's turkey, loaded baked potatoes, green beans, and homemade pumpkin pie.

Autumn rocks.

Geography cracks me up!
My sister, an hour from me, posted the other day that she's been running the heater at night. LOL! and here I am celebrating the fact that it is 1) finally cool enough to open the windows again, and 2) finally cool enough to keep them open all day without having to resort to closing up the house and turning the a/c back on in order to sleep comfortably at night. Just last week I was still having to do that because for some reason once the house finally heats up from the late afternoon sun, the night air just doesn't come through.

Meantime, I am still avoiding running our oven unless absolutely necessary because it just makes things TOO hot!

Yum!!! We must think alike. Sunday dinner was roast chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. Dessert is apple crisp hot out of the oven.

shades—I know what you mean about geography. That's why I specified the temperature. It was in the upper 30s this morning and was really chilly.
We practically refuse to turn on the heat yet (turn on the heat, crank up the cost of the gas bill). Having the oven on helps.

I do love having four constrasting seasons. Fall is one of my favorites.

cindy mom—That sounds good too!

Man I miss autumn in the Midwest/New England. We get nothing like that here in the stupid desert. Being an autumn baby I probably miss those cozy feelings of a great autumn day the most.

vp—As much as I bitch in the really cold days of winter, it's nice to have a change in the seasons. Fall and Spring are where it's at (and I'm a summer baby).

Yum! can I come over next sunday??

Yes, having the oven on helps.
My mom is so much more cold-natured than the rest of us that she used to open the oven every evening after dinner and let the heat out into the house. I do, too, when it's actually cold enough, but for now if I turn the oven on, the a/c has to come back on as well, so... I just don't.

MM, that sounds so good right about now. Can I come over for dinner? I won't eat too much... OK, to be honest, I probably would. :)

It's still in the 90s here. This bums me out. I bought a firepit for the patio and I can't wait for a cold night so I can light that sucker up and try to pretend I am somewhere with a real autumn.

cruel shoes—You're welcome here anytime. It's just a short multi-hour flight and you'll be at the door.

kym—Are you saying two kids and a husband don't leave you much time to cook?

shades—That's why you bake in the fall/winter and grill in the summer. Heat regulation. :)

LOL - yes, two kids and Tim leave me NO time to cook! So...what time shall we be there next Sunday? :-)

For this reason, I am kind of glad I didn't move to Arizona. I love autumn too.
