at least we're on the same wavelength

An actual interaction that took place on Saturday while playing Catch Phrase* with some friends.

JQ: "Okay. He was a famous hockey player from Detroit."

*Pixie*: (*without hesitation*) "Wayne Gretzky"

JQ: "Right." (*passes the game to the next player*)

Our friend Phil: "That's hilarious. I'll tell you why as soon as this round is over."**

*Catch Phrase is a quick paced game where you have to get your partner to guess the word in front of you without actually saying it. Super fun and nothing like Taboo or Charades.

**Apparently Wayne Gretzky never played for Detroit (nor was he from there). But we got the clue right—so who cares about specifics.

That is one game I have to pick up. I love games like that! You might like FInish Lines, it is way fun.

Playing games like that with my husband I feel like I have an unfair advantage because other people don't know our "marriage" language. Like I can say to hubby "The place where we ate that hot dog" and he'll yell out Fenway Park and be right!

fantastagirl—The electronic version is so fun!

vp—That's the beauty of it. Knowing your judge makes a huge difference in how you play. It's the same way with Apples to Apples. You're at an advantage if you know the people you're playing with.

That is hilarious and something I would totally do.

Catch Phrase is popular at our family gatherings. It's most fun with my sister-in-law from China. She doesn't know half of the "phrases" as some are idioms.

She just exclaims "I don't know that one!...Next!" and hits next until she finds one she can do.

rr—Our house rules state that you only get ONE pass per round. If you pass on the first word and don't like the second you are out of luck.

I love it!

And I just played Apples to Apples for the first time on Saturday night. I am not joking... one of the cards I got was Nicolas Cage! I hung onto it, waiting for the perfect opportunity to unveil the irony, but I waited too long and missed out. I did show my sister my hand, though, so she knew. Someone had to be in on it; I was dyin' over there.

cruel shoes—Nicholas Cage? Seriously? That's the PERFECT card for you! Too bad you didn't get to play it.
