my new toy

See that beauty up there? No...not me. But, really? Why, thank you. It must be the no makeup, just out of the shower, wet head look. Actually, I'm talking about the camera. My new toy. A Canon EOS Rebel XSi.

It's fantastic. I have wanted a Digital SLR for so long. I studied photography in college and shot with a Canon (film) SLR. Awesomely enough, my telephoto lens and cable release are compatible with the new camera. This camera makes me so excited. Even JQ cannot stop playing with it. I got it the May 24 and we've already taken 834 pictures with it. Here are just a few of my favorites so far. Click on the image for a bigger view.

At the park. (taken by JQ)

My brother & his buddy after graduation. Digging the purple.

Checking out the amphibian exhibit at the zoo.

Monkey tree frog. I love the water dripping off the leaf to the left of the frog.

Flower in the zoo gardens. See the bee head poking out?

Pasta night. You must see this bigger for the full effect—the hair, the eyes, the mess.

Is that the one I just saw a commercial for?

Could be. It is a new model. 12.2 megapixels, image stabilizing lens, etc.

I love photography so much and would love to take a class to use my new camera I got in Dec and still don't know how to use.

Your pictures are wonderful! Love the last one of G-man. I love how the sauce matches his locks. Where did he get that red hair from????

digital SLRs are fantastic. I would have never got into photography with a film camera, developing is so expensive.

What an awesome camera!!!! I really know nothing about cameras other than to point and shoot, so unfortunately I wouldn't even be able to appreciate all the great features your has to offer...but dayum, it takes great pics! Or maybe that's the photographer :-) I love the pasta night pic of G-man - his red hair on top of that saucy little face is just so precious!!

What kind of camera do you have? Maybe I can help a bit with some of the technical aspects.

I think G-man (or G-tot as I may start calling him) gets his hair from some deep recessive gene on JQ's side. JQ has some red in his beard but we were both blondes as little kids. It's bizarre but I love it so much.

dan—I developed my film at school (by hand) so that saved a bit on costs. You also learned to shoot what you really needed to. Now that I shoot digitally the number of shots I take it out of control.

kym—To sum up why this camera is so awesome in short—you have so much control over your settings. If you don't know how to use them, then you really aren't getting your moneys worth.

WOW. They're beautiful. I'm very impressed!
(And my Canon Rebel was the best film camera ever...it still is! I just never use the poor thing anymore. Greg just got us a new Canon digital point and shoot, and it's great so far, too, although it's more his camera than mine so I have to steal it away when I can!)

cruel shoes—Thanks. It's nice to get positive feedback on your work (as you know). We can be our own worst critics most days.

I don't know squat about photography. I'll stick with the Canon Digital Elph.

Oooo if it takes picture slike that, I want one. I hate our digital camera with a passion but hubby won't let me get a new one since he says the one we have works fine. Except he doesn't use it so he doesn't know my pain of dealing with a stupid camera.

Even though I read and re-read the first paragraph I was wondering why you used a photo of the model holding the camera instead of one of yourself....

Your pictures look awesome!

nobody—I know nothing about HAM Radios. We're even.

vp—You just aren't having any luck with purchasing big ticket items are you?

lynda—Are you saying I look like a model? Did I miss my calling?

My wife has an older EOS Digital Rebel. Best thing ever. She was hesitant to switch from film to digital, but when she did, she was totally in love. Even I take nice pictures with it, and I'm not good at photography. :)
