animal, vegetable, mineral

I have so many things that I want to write about but it takes forever to compose a post anymore and right now I don't have forever. The gardens beckon—which I will be writing about soon (I know you've missed those posts) and I'm running out of alone time. G-tot (the baby formerly know as G-man—Do you like it? I thought I'd try it out. He is just a wee one after all.) is napping but I can hear him rustling around so I don't know if he is actually sleeping still. I must hurry.

So...here's where you come in.

Favorite fruit?
Favorite vegetable?
Are you growing anything—fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers?
Did you know Coriander is seed of a Cilantro plant? Double the value.
Have you ever raised animals for consumption?
Can you share a gardening tip with us? No? How about a question then?

And of course, a photo. Because, if I'm going to shoot them everyday, I'm going to share them.

Fav Fruit - Fresh Strawberries

Fav Veggie - Corn on Cob

What I'm growing now? Kids (I don't even have pretty flowers.)

Coriander - Nope - you are wise

Raised animals for consumption - yes, I was raised on a farm - chickens, steers, sheep, hogs.

Gardening Tip - weed often - the plants will grow better if they aren't competing with the weeds for water and nutrients from the weeds. Straw works well between the rows.

But you said if you are going to take a picture, and then you post one JQ took! I protest! ;)

Not really though.

Favorite fruit? Depends on my mood. I love Ugli fruit.
Favorite vegetable? I like Zuchini. Not raw though.
Are you growing anything—fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers? Not at the moment. Houseplants, and they are not looking so hot.
Did you know Coriander is seed of a Cilantro plant? Double the value. Yes.
Have you ever raised animals for consumption? No. If my meat doesn't come in a indistiguishable from the animal it came from styroform tray, I won't eat it.
Can you share a gardening tip with us? No? How about a question then? Peat flower pots are the way to go with seedlings. Less stress when you replant them, because you just plant the whole pot.

Favorite fruit? Peaches

Favorite vegetable? Almost all of them, but if I must pick just one, asparagus.

Are you growing anything—fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers?Live-forevers, hens-and-chicks, houseplants. If it's not a perennial, it's not growing at our house right now.

Did you know Coriander is seed of a Cilantro plant? Double the value. Yes, I knew that, but I don't know if I've ever used coriander.

Have you ever raised animals for consumption?Yes, hogs, but only a couple of them when I was a kid.

Can you share a gardening tip with us? Look into container gardening or raised bed gardening to make use of limited space, reduce weeding, prevent backache, etc.

No? How about a question then? Why do I always want to start a garden, but don't want to care for it once it's planted?

Fav fruit: strawberries

Fav vegetable: broccoli

Growing anything: Some very dry-looking "wildflowers" (I'm not so sure what they really are; they came in a $.99 packet at Walgreens, VERY classy) in our nice raised garden bed. I'm wasting this resource.

Coriander is cilantro: Nope, I did not know that. This is a cool fact. I learned something today.

Raised animals for consumption: Never have. I lost my temper on a friend who raised pigs for 4H once because she told me that they covered up 'bruises' on the pigs when they went to shows. The bruises came from getting hit with sticks. I still can't believe I'm friends with someone who used to beat her pigs and put makeup on them.

Gardening tip: Compost! It's pretty rad but it takes a long time to get enough of it, so start now. (And make sure your dogs stay out of the compost pile, unlike our idiot Indy.)

Are you growing anything—fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers?
Red lilies, Gladiolus, Geraniums, Hibiscus, Coleus and Portulaca.

Did you know Coriander is seed of a Cilantro plant? Double the value.
I didn't- but I still don't like Cilantro.

Have you ever raised animals for consumption?
No.

Can you share a gardening tip with us? Uh... I thought I had one...

No? How about a question then?
I forgot.

fantastagirl—That's a great tip about the straw. We have a bale in the backyard, I may just have to use it once I get the weeds under control. They're really bad this year.

lynda—I know, I know. I even thought about that and almost posted another picture. I really like this one though. Plus, I wanted to give JQ the credit—but it's still in the family.

blogarita—Planning and planting is fun, weeding and on the other hand, not so much. You almost have to approach it as a cathartic experience. It's helped me on more than one occasion when I didn't want to weed. The fruits of your labor are so worth it in the long run.

cruel shoes—We eliminated our compost pile for the benefit of the neighbors last year. I already miss it this year since I've really gotten back into working in the yard. It was impossible last year with G-tot being so little. We really need a bin instead of an open pile.

shades—What about morning glories?

dutchy—It's here! Thanks so much!

I found your blog off of SAJ, and I was just going to comment on how great it is, when I see you are a fellow NW Ohio-er:) How fun!

Did you know Coriander is seed of a Cilantro plant? Double the value. No.
Have you ever raised animals for consumption? No. But when my little one gets older and decides to join the FFA I hope to.
Can you share a gardening tip with us? No? How about a question then? Not really, I plant things and hope they grow, if not oh well.

G-Tot, I love it!!

Favorite fruit? Bananas or Strawberries

Favorite vegetable? Sweet corn

Are you growing anything—fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers? I tired your morning glories. Alas, the wicked Vegas heat claimed them. I am sorry. I saved some seeds though and will try again when it gets cooler. IF it gets cooler.

Did you know Coriander is seed of a Cilantro plant? Double the value. I actually did know that because I watched a cooking show just once.

Have you ever raised animals for consumption? Not I but my husband did. Grew up on a farm. I would never be able to eat something I saw every day with a cute face.

Can you share a gardening tip with us? No? How about a question then? Don't try to grow anything in Vegas when it is 110 degrees or higher for 13 days straight.
