oh, the butter goes second

About a decade ago, just as I was getting my first real apartment, my Grandmother was getting rid of a bunch of cookbooks. Knowing that I like to cook—and that I was probably lacking a good collection of recipes—she offered the books to me. I don't remember how many of the cookbooks I took or how many of them I still have with the exception of one—Betty Crocker's Good & Easy Cookbook.

There is no copyright date to be found but I would put my money on it being from the 50s or 60s. I doubt that I have ever actually made a recipe from the cookbook. However, the content is so hilarious that I had to have it. And, I have to keep it—forever.

Just look at these photographs of the wonderful culinary delights you can concoct.

Check out the description of this breakfast spread.

Fourth meal came long before Taco Bell started using the phrase.

These are all priceless but there is one particular section that made me take the book. Behold, one of my favorite entries:

Tricks with toast. Please click on the link to read the very important first tip. It may just save breakfast.

Isn't this the cook book that tells you how to pack a lunch for your husband?

Whatever happened to the good old fashioned Teen-aged Gathering?

christina—How could you not love this sort of ephemera?

lynda—See, this here blog not only entertains, it educates.

mel—It's a powerful system.

jq—I think it is. One tip I remember is to always pack a thermos of cold milk for your thirsty man.

rr—Or afternoon teas for that matter.

If my breakfast sundaes don't look gay, I won't eat them.

I KNEW I was doing something wrong when I tried to make toast. Thank you so much for showing me the light.

I used to think that some actors were gay and delicious but now I have seen something even more so. Thanks Pixie.

Also, what if I wanted to put peanut butter on my toast first? Is that okay?
