how to mother like a jackass

Constantly forget to take care of your baby's nails until they are so long that he scratches himself in the face with them. Then, in an attempt to rectify the scratching situation on the spot, grab the baby nail clippers and manage to pinch your baby's finger hard enough to draw blood.

Poor baby. He really screamed.

We're better now.

Every parent has done that I think. Hell, I did it a few months ago to my six year old!

Pixie. I did that. She lived. I cried when she got shots until she was about four. It's all normal.

Yup, I've been there, too. It happens.

Been there, done that. I cried too!

We all do that to our kids. To our grandkids, too.

Ah, trial and error of a new parent. I am sure the little guy forgives you. My sis that with Aidan and cried also. I can see all the parents on here have as well. I hope you feel better in knowing it is "normal".

I remember my sister trimmed my nephews nails a lot. She also said he needed to stop scratching his face or she would put those little baby mitts on him. Like he would listen at that age. LOL

We still bite Kenslee's nails because of a horror story I know about regarding nail clippers and babies.

He looks like he forgives you.

My aunt bit her babyies'(baby's, babies, babie's, babys'...there were 5)fingernails. I thought that was kind of gross.

I can imagine the guilt.

I was like that. The Kid still has one scar on his cheek to prove that... :-(

My momma pinned me to my cloth diaper with one of those giant safety pins but good. Uh-huh, she did.

All part of learning. I think he'll be okay. :)

Bite the nails. I don't think we've ever used nail clippers b/c I'm afraid we'll snip the tip of her finger off - of course she never sits still for a moment unless she's asleep (and I've heard people recommend cutting them while the baby sleeps, but once we get her to bed, we don't take any chances!). What a cutie patootie!

I agree with Kym. I think this happens a lot and I always somehow comment right after her.

Weird.

Anyway, he's a doll!

I as just going to say, all of my girlfriends with kids have done that exact thing. I guess it's a rite of passage. I'm looking forward to drawing blood from the fingertips of my own children someday.
