white out

It's been snowing since around 4 o'clock this morning. We have winds between 20 & 30 miles per hour and snow drifts of around 2 feet. Just about everything is closed around here—at least that's the impression I get from the never-ending ticker running across the bottom of the television. I made a big batch of homemade beef barley soup today which we had just before Mr. Pixie left to plow—he just left and will probably be gone until late tonight. I really should be working on my syllabi for next quarter. What am I doing instead? Staying inside, ignoring our blizzard like conditions, and going through my blogroll. I hope you've posted something new.

We live just south of Indianapolis, and Indy has about a foot of snow right now. We, on the other hand, have been getting rain and sleet since last night, which is now about 2 inches of ice with about 1 inch of heavy snow on it. The snow is still coming down. The plows are not able to break the ice. Our power went out at 10 a.m., and at about 5 I drove to Man's mom's house for heat and food. The power came on around 8 p.m., so we came back home. It was a terrible drive. My wipers were frozen, and I couldn't get them to work right no matter how many times I stopped to clean them. It was like a whiteout on top of that. Man was tall enough to see over the spot they were missing so we switched cars, but still...it sucked hard. I think I will stay home tomorrow.

It is snowing here in Jersey too. I can't wait to walk dogs in this weather tomorrow. I would much rather stay home and read blogs.

Did they let you stay home from work this time?

That's probably the storm we got Monday night.

Beef barley soup? Yummy!

cookie—It's still a level 3 here—which means you could get arrested if you go out driving in this.

Naynay—If you get the drifting we do, the dogs will be under the snow.

Jen—We're between quarters this week, so I'm off anyway.

Blogarita—Mr. Pixie plowed yesterday from 4 pm until about 10 pm and then left again at 2 o'clock this morning. It's 10:40 now and I probably won't see him for many, many hours. The soup was fabulous, but I just threw it together (no recipe) so I can't submit it to your Kitchen blog. ;)

They arrest people for driving in the snow? I like that policy.

Mmmm, soup is good.

yeah, this snowstorm surrendered much of the country helpless. although, i admit, i didn't mind the couple of days to be extra lazy at home. (although, i could've been much more lazy than i was... i used much of the time to get organized and stuff.)

I hope you don't lose power. Snow days are awesome if you have power. If not, then it sucks.

Don't you love the internet? What in the hell did we do with our time before, say 1995?
