sometimes being a homeowner really sucks

Like when you clean your oven with that nasty ass oven cleaner and all of a sudden your oven won't work. Add to that the fact that your oven was delivered brand new one year ago yesterday and you know what you get? An oven that is not only not working, but is also no longer under warranty. Then, after several hours of troubleshooting you decide you think you know what is wrong and call for the part, only to find out that it won't be delivered until December 28th. Now do you know what you've got? A stove that works with no oven capabilities. Let's look at that as a math equation:

burners that work + oven that doesn't + angst/holiday weekend = stressed household

Any questions?

So what part didja break? And why did you do that? I'm all done with that nasty ass oven cleaner stuff, we got a self cleaner this time. Mrs Nobody couldn't take the fumes from the cleaner so I always had to do it.

Nobody—Technically, I did nothing. Seeing as how I'm 6 months pregnant and all I wasn't going anywhere near that oven cleaner stuff. From what Josh deduced from the multiple hours of troubleshooting, our ingniter switch blew out. Don't know exactly how or why it happened, but it did. At this point all we can do is wait for the part and see. It isn't anyone's fault—just a shitty circumstance and minor inconvenience.

At least Josh is handy.

Ovens only have a one year warrenty? I thought at least 5 years on those things.

Sorry. That sucks. I hate the chemical oven cleaner stuff. I am with Nobody. Self cleaning is the way to go. In fact, I didn't know they made non-self cleaning ovens anymore.

I would just order out for the next week. Plus, Xmas Eve and Xmas day, you can probably eat at other people's homes.

I keep a sheet of foil on the bottom of my oven so when food goes over, I can just change the foil and never have to clean it.

I hate cleaning ovens - Self-cleaning is the way to go.

Cookie - Have you ever heard of the The Kept Woman? She ruined her oved with the tin foil thing...just so you know.

That sucks... I would think in a city that size you should be able to get parts fast, but it always seems the faster you need it, the longer it will take to get it.

And I was wondering what the hell you were doing using oven cleaner! Glad to hear that was Josh's job.

Is there no-one who can fix it? I had a similar problem and just called out a little man to fix it. Or if it's just the igniter swithch ( I presume that it's a gas oven) can't you just use a match to light it?

Fantastgirl,

No, I have not. Please tell me. How did it ruin her oven?

Oh that just sucks...sory! Perhaps you can go somewhere else for the holidays so you won't have any stress about not being able to cook.

Cookie - she had an oven with a heating element in the bottom of the oven, covered the bottom with tin-foil and it melted to the bottom of her oven... she has pictures on her blog. She is on my blogroll - if I was goog with html I'd post a link, but I'm not - sorry!
