snatch

A couple of months ago, Daily Candy wrote about Snatch. This looks so cool and totally up my game playing alley. Kelwhy—this is the first thing I thought about when I came across your word game. The premise is simple. According to the Portobello Games website, this is how you play:
For 2 or more players
Place the letters face down on a table. Take it in turns to turn the pieces until a word of 3 or more letters can be made. If you see and say the word first, you take it and put in front of you.
From now on the game has two sides: words are made from the middle and existing words are snatched if changed by one or more letters. Thus, your CAT, may become their CART which could be snatched as TRACK seconds later. Continue until all the letters have been turned and players agree to stop playing and start scoring.
Rules

* All words must have 3 or more letters
* If 2 players spot a word at the same time, the longest word wins.
* All players may take a word at any time during play.
* You must change the meaning of the word
* You can add as many letters as you like but you must use all the letters of the word you are snatching.
* Words must be lengthened not just rearranged.
* No names, no slang.
* You may add to your own words.
* You may take any number of complete words and join them together to create a new word.

How to Win
The first 3 letters of a word score 1 point, subsequent letters score 1 point each.
e.g. TAN (1 point), THA-N (2 points) CHA-NT (3 points), SNA-TCH (4 points)
Unfortunately, I can't find it around here. The online store appears to only take pounds and that's just no good for me. I'll keep looking, but I'm sure googling "snatch" will give me some less than savory results (if nothing else click on this link, you've got to see it). And the look on the ladies face at Toy's R Us when I ask if she has snatch in stock—well, let's just say I'm not welcome at Geoffrey's playground anymore.

great snatch picture. I love how they're under some shady bridge or something.

Wow, sounds like a great game! I (also a Uniter Kingdomer) have never heard of it or seen it anywhere before though. Maybe there is another country somewhere random that has stolen our currency, but knows how to make cool games.

Maybe Sarah can hook you up. Sounds like a fun game. So, the person who misses seeing the word first has to take a shot, right? When do we play?

That does look like fun. What about possibly using scrabble letter tiles? How many letters do you get in Snatch? We'll have to look into this.

I love playing with snatch too....oh wait, wrong snatch.

It does look interesting. Hope you can find your snatch...er, uh...game.

Tim—I know, I thought it was too funny not to share. I hope more people click on the link.

Amanda—We love Scrabble and this sort of reminds me of that.

Melissa—Good hypothesis.

MadE—I thought the same thing and even had her in the title, but it sounded all pervy and the post was shady enough without asking Sarah about snatch where she lives.

Kelwhy—You probably could use Scrabble tiles, but I'm not sure of the specifics like number of letters and such in Snatch.

Chuck—You are such a man. And trust me, I know exactly where my snatch is.

The game sounds fun, though!

This sounds like a lot of fun, if all my friends weren't illiterate.

Jen—I wonder if it would win Josh and I first place in a costume contest?

Nobody—Yes.

Dave—At least you would win most of the time.

I just saw the movie Snatch for the first time this weekend! I no longer have to say the phrase, "I've never seen snatch. I want to see snatch. I've heard snatch is good."

Oh, Snatch! You are such a great word!! :)

(Who wants to play with Geoffrey anyway? He seems like a little fey daddy's boy if you ask me.)

I wish I would have saw this before I went to the mall today. They have that whole store devoted to games there.

Lisa—I think "snatch" should be the new "snap". Whadda ya think?

Alex—I didn't see it there last time I was at the mall (which was like a week and a half ago).

I was also told Target has it. Ask and you shall receive. I'll be making the purchase at one of the two places sooner than later.
