Movin' on Up

Wow. I can't believe it's actually been two months since I've posted. So much has happened since November I don't even know where to start. I will be skipping over the details of all holidays—although they were lovely.

Perhaps the most important event that has occured in our lives since my last post is the acquisition of our first home. That's right...we FINALLY bought a house! For all of you sitting on the edge of your chairs, wondering if the house we bought was the house with the crazy background story (See "This Old House..." post), it indeed is. If your next question is, "Well, how is it to live there?"—We absolutely love it. It is OUR HOME now and it has our touch, our personality, and is perfect for us.

We closed on the house on December 9, 2005. Just six days earlier my car was broken into at our apartment and my awesome after market JVC stereo was kindly stolen from me. Some people—our bikes were stolen in October as well. The stereo was replaced by my insurance company, but the added hassle of a claim at that time was totally inconveinent, as I was just getting ready to cancel my policy with that insurer. Anyway, back to the house.

We closed on that Friday and for the next 12 days, Josh and I (along with the gracious and much appreciated help from family and friends) worked endless hours to get the house ready to move into. It was sold "as is" and needed attention. We scrubbed all the surfaces, painted all the walls, changed locks, pulled up all the carpet (to reveal beautiful hardwood floors with paint all over them...yet another project), pulled and retiled the kitchen floor...the list goes on.

On Thursday, December 22, 2005 we moved in. The move went really smooth—again only due to the fact that we had help from our family and friends. We stayed that night and only went back to the apartment to grab the miscellaneous stragglers and say good-bye to the place we lived for 5 years. We'll miss the river view but we love our house more than we could ever imagine.

And you have the peace of mind knowing your belongings will be much safer where you are now! I'm so excited for you guys! I love the "surprise" hardwood flooring- someday I hope to find a house holding the same surprise!

Jen-
We knew there was hardwood flooring...that's why we pulled up the carpet in the first place. Unfortunately, our "surprise" was the fact that there was paint all over the floors. Hello, anyone ever heard of a drop cloth?!? We will probably be refinishing the floors this summer.
