cereal

For the past month or so I've eaten a bowl of Cheerios with milk for breakfast almost every morning. I discovered that I could eat them and get in some calcium without incident back when my morning sickness was rearing it's ugly head and I wasn't sure what I could eat without seeing it again.

And I love them. Cheerios would probably be my all time favorite cereal. I've eaten lots of other cereals over the years but I always come back to my Cheerios. They are tasty and versatile and will probably be the first solid cereal our baby eats. I have yet to get sick of them and should probably get some stock in General Mills—since almost weekly we are buying a box of O's.

So, what I want to know is:
What is your favorite cereal and why?

I love oatmeal, does that count since you have to cook it? I believe the oat is considered a cereal grain though. I do not mean that nasty crap that comes in pouches that you stick in the microwave for 60 seconds or the "instant" oatmeal that is ground up oats. I like to get whole oats and boil them in skim milk and then add a little bit of brown sugar and dried fruit. It is oh so tastey and makes you feel warm inside, kinda like a shot of Captain Morgan's!

I don't "do" breakfast... So I would have to say NO cereal is my favorite. Sorry to be a spoil sport...

tmat—Oatmeal totally counts. I didn't specify "cold" cereal. I'm more of a winter oatmeal eater myself.

Dutchy—You don't cook bacon, you don't eat breakfast...what do you do? And, I never said you had to eat cereal in the morning. It could be anytime of day. How about your son? Does he eat cereal?

I hate cereal- but I will tolerate my homemade granola (toasted oats, coconut, honey, cinnamon, vanilla, walnuts or sunflower seeds, dried cranberries or dried apricots); or the Sunbelt granola variety if I'm feeling lazy.

Other than that, if I must eat cereal (and I must, I stay thinner when I do) it is either the knockoff variety of Lucky Charms or some cheap version of Honey Nut cheerios with freshly sliced peaches or banana.

Honestly, I do like alot of other cereals, it's the idea of cereal that turns me off. Quaker Oh's are good, but something about their texture cuts my gums. Love Cracklin' Oat Bran, too, but...the same thing happens.

Jen—What do you mean, "the idea of cereal"?

I probably like Cherrios myself, but overall I don't really like cereal. After three days, I am ready for a new one. I need variety packs for adults, darn it!

I do love my Cheerios, but I tend to get a different kind every time a go shop. There are just so many it's just something that has to be done to try each one.

I agree with melissa. I like a variety. But, my favs are Life, because I want to Be Like Mikey, and Lucky Charms because They're grrrrrreat! Er, wait, I think that was wrong.

I love me some Raisin Bran because it makes me poop.

i'm all about the special k with berries action. the dehydrated strawberries actually are pretty good.

Lynda—I think they sell "adult" variety packs now.

Melissa—Have you ever found one you hated?

Tim—"Pink hearts, yellow horseshoes, a pot of gold in the bottom of the box"...or something like that.

MadE—You've been having some trouble with that haven't you?

Violet—Do you ever eat them without the milk?

I like oatmeal, too. I started eating Fiber One some time ago and have to say I like it - it's an easy way to get 57% of ones daily fiber. I hate to mention that because Mad Ethel may try to corner the market now. :P

ummmm I don't think so. But Soggy All Bran is yakky.

Trix, because they're magically delicious.

The idea of eating cereal turns my stomach. I don't know why. It has something to do with the whole "Soggy Cereal Phenomena" although I barely wet my cereal with any milk at all to avoid that. I am happy with my cereal that way and it doesn't get soggy but the idea of soggy cereal just does not sit well with me. The corners of my mouth actually turn down in that "I think I'm gonna puke" sensation just thinking about it.

trix are for kids!

bad for you cereal -lucky charms!
because THEY are magically delicious!

good for you cereal - corn flakes
(I'm boring)

I love all cereal!
Actually, I just had some for dinner..

Pixie:
But don't the corn flakes make the roof of your mouth hurt? I used to like Captain Crunch when I was little but the sharp edges on those bastards cut me up so bad I had to have a blood transfusion. This is why my favorite cereal is Cream of Wheat, but lumpy.

Lisa said...

Um Pixie? I meant don't the CHEERIOS cut up the roof of your mouth. But I guess that would be a problem with corn flakes too.

I like Fruity Pebbles. I actually eat the Malt O Meal brand, they taste just as good, are cheaper, and come in a ziplock package.

I like Blueberry Morning... or Strawberries 'N Cream Oatmeal.

Raisin Nut Bran...it has crispy flakes, nutty covered rasins and is sweet and delicious without being too tooth-numbingly sugary like some other cerels. And I feel slightly grown up when I eat it. What I don't understand is why the heck is cerel so darn expensive?

Cupcake Blonde said...

Oh and I'm with Jen...can't stand soggy cerel and I will never drink the milk if there is any left in the bowl (I don't put much on) cause it forces my gag reflux. I can't stand floaties!

I love cereal too! I can't think of a cereal I don't like! Hmm, if I had to pick one I think it would be Golden Grahams. I just love the taste of it. There is really no reason why other than that.

I have to agree also with Mad Ethel, raisin bran is really good and does help the pooping process.

I like oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Malt O Meal, all the hot cereals.

We buy knock-off honey-nut Cheerios for Sparky, and about once a year, Spouse Guy will ask me to pick up a box of mini shredded wheat.

I hate everything about cold cereal...I hate that it is so expensive (convert it to a price per pound and compare it to the same amount of oatmeal!), I hate the way most of it tastes, and I hate that it is so processed.

But then again, I will eat rice cakes or cheese curls, which are nothing more than cold cereal with cheese and salt on them...LOL!

I am partial to the generic version of cinimin toast crunch. i think it is called cinimin tosters, although they probibaly spell it correctly. I like it because it is high in sugar and if you eat it with whole milk (as i do) it is also high in fat.

COCO POPS!!! They turn the milk chocolatey! What more could you ask for?!

Being a bit nerdy I tend to eat a UK Brand called Dorset Cereals. They do a cranberry cherry & almond cereal that just starts some days right.

Cap'n Crunch and Apple Jacks. 'Cause they're about as sweet as they can be and I love sweet things, Pixie.

I'm with you, Pixie -- all about the o's. There's an o-face joke in here somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

Beebers said...

i mix together honey nut cheerios and quaker oatmeal squares.

YUM!

but cookie crisp are awfully good if i'm needing the sweet crap.

It's all about the Cinnamon Toast Crunch for me! Something about overly sugery sweet cereal to make my morning right. LOL

Honey Nut Cheerios all the way.
